Cordoba is know for its beautiful red-and-white-striped Moorish mosque the Mezquita, also called ‘the forest of the thousand pillars’’. You can read more about this fabulous cultural attraction here.

However the city has more to offer besides the Mezquita:- Cordoba has a rich and long history and was once the capital of Al-Andalus, the powerful nation of the old Islamic world. The Jewish barrow – La Juderia – has existed since Roman times and with its narrow alleys and lively squares it is nice to wander around in. The old bridge across La Juderia is called Puente Romano and was part of the long road that led to Rome.

With its various palaces and museums this city is really a must for culture lovers. Cordoba has both an archaeological and a bull fight museum and there’s also an old medina with archaeological remains. And then there’s the Alcácar de los Reyes Cristianos, an ancient fortress which is nice to visit and well known for its beautiful water rich gardens.

The Feria of Cordoba is in May and hands out a nice opportunity to get to know the town with its people. The Festival of the Patios, is also held in this month and gives you a nice opportunity to visit the yards, or gardens of houses that you wouldnt normally have access to. In July the Guitar festival makes the heart beat faster of all fans of acoustic guitar music.

Around the 20th of June the gypsies ('gitanos') celebrate the 'Romeria de la Virgen de la Sierra' in the village of Cabra (60 km south of Cordoba).
