• 55.000 inhabitants, from Nerja 90 km (1 hour) Mijas originally was a small nice white village on the green hills behind the Costa del Sol. Because of the mass tourism now there also too parts: Mijas Pueblo and Mijas Costa. Lots of tourists that want too see something other than the beach visit the beautiful viewing point of Mijas Pueblo, which offers views over the entire coast. Apart from its nice location there’s another attraction: Spain’s only square bull fight arena. There is also a museum, with a fascinating collection of minatures that is said to be worth visiting. There are donkey carriages available to trot tourists through Mijas pueblo. For the past few years the donkeys have been medically examined by the donkey sanctuary El Refugio del Burrito (also see the Activities chapter ‘Adopt a donkey’). Mijas Pueblo makes a nice combination with a visit to Benalmadena Pueblo or Marbella. The market of Mijas (Costa) is on Saturday morning. Feria Mijas: second week of September |
