• 45.000 inhabitants, from Nerja 80 km (1 hour) On the high rise coast between Malaga and Marbella lies Benalmadena. Benalmadena Costa is in our eyes just another high rise town without a beginning or an ending, but the old village up the mountain – Benalmadena Pueblo - is worth visiting. It has been renovated so beautifully that it’s almost too perfect. Lovely white washed houses, sparkling fountains, small winding streets, a little church and lots of orange trees make the Spanish experience real. We noticed that outside high season it’s remarkably quiet In Benalmadena Pueblo you can stay in Hotel La Fonda, designed by the famous architect Cesar Manrique who also designed a lot for the Canary Island of Lanzarote. The fairly priced hotel has big rooms, beautiful settings and you can even do a cooking workshop in its restaurant. From Benalmadena Costa you can also make boat trips for dophin spotting (www.costasolcruceros.com) and here you also find Sealife (aquarium), bird park Garden of Eagles, Tivoli World (family park) and Selwo Marina Park (theme park). There's also a 4-persons cable car system (Selwo Telecabina) that runs up to 800 meters. This trips results into a spectacular view over the Costa del Sol coast and even the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. If you like you can also walk down or take your mountain bike with you to cycle down. Around the 3th of June Benalmadena Pueblo celebrates the popular katholic festival of Corpus Christi with lots and lots of flowers. The market of Benalmadena is on Friday morning.
