• 70.000 inhabitants, from Nerja 24 km (20 minutes)

Velez-Malaga is the capital of the Axarquia (the east part of the province of Malaga) and officially also Torre del Mar and Caleta de Velez belong to this municipally.

The Semana Santa Easter processions in Velez-Malaga are very pretty and lately the town even has its own Semana Santa museum so you can taste the atmosphere of this religious spectacle all through the year.

The agricultural land produces lots of muscatel grapes for the famous Malaga wines and in July there is a guitar festival. Except for this there aren't so many specials tourist attractions and the town has a sort of difficult structure to find your way all up the mountain. This is complicated by foot but we definitely wouldn't recommend this by car with all the narrow one-way streets. Because of this, we personally never reached the 13th century Moorish castle… At the foothill of the town you find a big industrial region with all kinds of shops for business as well as private people.

Behind Velez-Malaga lies the lake of Vinuela which is a large water reservoir for the whore area.

The market of Velez-Malaga is on Thursday.
