• 3.500 inhabitants, from Nerja 22 km (30 minutes) Competa is a quiet white village 22 kilometres inland from Nerja. It’s situated 650 metres high, in the foothills of the Almijara mountain and there are several little rivers. Competa is the starting point for a lot of hiking and biking excursions and really is a good spot for nature lovers. Just like Nerja, Torrox and Frigiliana, Competa is part of the Sun & Wine route. The town produces delicious wines and honey. There’s also a wine museum. From 22 until the 25th of June the people of Competa celebrate the San Sebastian. One of the most important festivals of the year is the Noche del Vino on the 15th of August. Grapes are stamped by feet in the traditional way during the day, in the square of Plaza de la Vendimia. The route to Competa is very bendy, so if you’re not used to driving this track, it’s probably best if you book a hotel or be back before dark. The day before this festival there’s a lot of festivities on the 21st of July with fireworks and processions. On Saturday afternoon they then have the Fiesta de Espuma, a cheerful spectacle with a lot of foam… In Competa you also find a wine museum / restaurant (Calle Constitucion, tel: 952 553 314). The market of Competa is on Saturday morning. Feria Competa: end of July Taxi Competa tel. 952 516 199 |
