La Herradura & harbour |
 | |
• 3.000 inhabitants, from Nerja 19 km (16 minutes)
La Herradura – which means horse shoe because of the shape of its bay – is a part of Almunecar. It’s a quiet small place in a beautiful bay. There aren't so many restaurants, but the beach is lovely. On the beach are some chiringuitos (fish restaurants). We like ‘El Chamboa de Joaquin’ best with its nice beach garden. La Herradura is visited a lot by the Spanish, the tourist’s season is mainly concentrated in July and August.
Just after the bay of La Herradura lies a little harbour called ‘Marina del Este’. Via a winding road you’ll get to the other side of the mountain. You can’t see the harbour from the sea, so just follow the signs ‘Marina del Este’. In this harbour you’ll also find some nice restaurants and a diving centre.
The 228 boat places are said to be expensive. Because of the environment the construction of harbours along the Spanish coast is limited. Also Nerja and Torrox have had plans for a harbour for many years, which have recently been approved (in the west of Nerja close to Punta Lara).although it is, as yet unknown, when the harbour will be built. Just before La Herradura lies the mountain of Cerro Gordo which offers you spectacular views over the coastline.
The market of La Herradura is on Friday morning (until 14:00 hrs, Plaza Nueva).
