Torrox you can reach either from the highway toward Malaga, or through the coast road (N340) which is quite nice drive. It has two separate parts; Torrox Costa and the old Torrox Pueblo a little more up in the mountains. Torrox Pueblo is actually really pretty and has a nice setting, but you won’t find any interesting tourists attractions or restaurants here. Therefore the village is not really visited a lot by tourists. However, there is a lovely traditional Spanish plaza, which is a nice spot to stop for a coffee. Close by you will see a tapa bar. Torrox Costa has been founded especially for the tourists and has more high-rise. There’s still a lot of building and there have been plans for a golf course for quite some time now. Despite the fact that Torrox Costa isn’t all that cosy or picturesque, the long boulevard along the beach can still be nice to visit. This runs from the light house (where you can find some old remainings of a Roman necropolis) until the big colourful RIU hotel. As opposed to Nerja, Torrox Costa is completely flat, which of course is a benefit for people who have problems walking. As most tourists in Nerja are British, in Torrox the majority of the tourists are German and a strong community of ex-pats from Germany live full time in Torrox Costa.
A nice restaurant next to the RIU hotel is the restaurant of El Quinte Pino. And in the mountains of Torrox lies a very special hotel restaurant ‘Los Caracoles’ . The owners won the lottery and built a hotel in the shape of snail houses… very special and with spectacular views!
Torrox and Nerja officially have the best climate in Europe.
