• 2.000 inhabitants, from Nerja 6 km (10 minutes) Frigiliana is a small village that lies about 6 kilometres from Nerja at a height of 400 meters on the other side of the highway. Really a must-go suggestion! It’s one of the best preserved Moorish villages of whole Andalusia and dates from 1767. It’s situated on a hill (so lot’s of steps) and the old centre with its painting like alleys has been renovated beautifully. Despite the fact that a lot of tourists visit the place, it seems as if time stood still. On the main square, old men and women, in black clothing, gather to go to church in the evening. In the main square, opposite the church are some nice terraces, but for the really special restaurants you need to go higher up in the village and these offer you tremendous views over Frigiliana, Nerja and the coast. By the way: in these streets you also find nice furniture and accessories stores with ceramics, wood cutting and also wine and sherry tasting. Frigiliana has its own waterfall (you can swim here) and this river finally ends in Nerja. Frigiliana is also part of the ‘Sun and Wine Route’. You can park at the bottom of the village or in the recently build parking garage underneath the new market terrain. Frigiliana has an old and a new part (at the junction before the village you go left for the old part and right for the new) but it has been built in exactly the same style. The old part lies more up the hill. If you can’t get enough from the beautiful view, you can also take the winding road up to Torrox Pueblo. The old road to Competa, famed for its wine, from the top of the village is not for the faint hearted! You could call it ‘adventurous’. If you wish to visit Competa there is a better road leading up from Torrox Pueblo. A yearly bull running is also held in Frigiliana on the morning before the feria starts. About 7 kilometre above Frigiliana lies the 17th century mini-village of El Acebuchal, that recently has been renovated completely. Some remainings even go back to 1000 years before Christ in the Iberical period. Lots of artistic people feel attracted to this peaceful village and it's also a great place for outdoor activities during your holiday like biking, hiking, horseback riding etc, because El Acebuchal is beautifully situated between the pine trees of the Tejada Natural Park and the Almijara mountains. The market of Frigiliana takes place at Thursday morning (until 14:00 hrs).
