This friendly and laid-back deep South of Andalucia has never fallen into Moorish hands and it is said that Cadiz is the oldest city of Europe. It is famous for it’s creative carnival and the setting is quit exceptional. The city itself lies on a peninsula with the old part of town completely built on the last bit of land. Towards the very old centre lies a long street with buildings to each side of about 3 kilometres which forms the newer centre. The city has nice beaches and a vibrant nightlife, in both the old and new parts of town. The surroundings of Cadiz are rather industrial because of the fact that Cadiz has an important harbour. A long bridge makes it possible to get to the other side of the bay, infact a short ferry boat trip takes you across to the gorgeous village of La Puerta de la Santa Maria which is definitely worth visiting. It is also easily accessible by road and there is a frequent bus service between the two places.
