There is a good reason for the fact that the Costa del Sol got its nickname ‘Costa del Golf’. The golf courses in this part of Spain already amount up to 50 and there’re lots more on the drawing table. In general you can say the golf courses are well maintained, they’re almost all open to the general public and there’s lots of space (of course, making a reservation can never hurt). Each golf course offer extra facilities to give their guests a great time. But the main reason that makes the Costa del Sol to golfers paradise, of course is the climate. Except for the really hot months of July and August, you can play all through the year and even in winter. These are perfect conditions for many golf lovers who wish to come to the Costa del Sol for a golf holiday or even just a golf weekend. Nerja has its own golf club: Golf International Nerja Society.
The golf courses that are nearest to Nerja: Torre del Mar - Baviera Golf (18 holes / Par 71) This golf course is designed by the famous Spanish golfer, José Maria Canazares (5 won PGA European Tournaments, 2 x World Championships and several Ryder Cups) and opened its doors in 2002. It’s an attractive driver’s course with wide fairways. There are also some water areas to make it interesting for more experienced players. Although you can see the course from the highway, you can play here in complete silence. www.bavieragolf.com Rincon de la Victoria - Anoreta Golf (18 holes / Par 72) Also this course was designed by Jose Maria Canazares, who obviously has managed to make a good living out of these kinds of jobs. It’s a diverse course for all levels, but it’s especially attractive for more experienced players because its undulating grounds (unto 5%). He respected the original features of this terrain and there are at least 11 holes with water. www.anoretagolf.es Rincon de la Victoria - Club de Golf El Candado (9 holes) This other course in Rincon de la Victoria is much smaller and not so well known yet. It lies in a small valley and was designed by Carlos Fernandez Caleya for a wide audience. Although it’s small, the hills make it a nice course. www.clubelcandado.com Motril - Los Moriscos Golf Club (18 holes, par 72) Los Moriscos was designed by Ibergolf-Manuel Pinero and is situated right next to the sea. A part of the course goes over the beach to add even a little more Mediterranean character to it. The location of this course make it relatively cool compared to courses that lie inland, which is a real luxury in high summer. It’s a fast course as long a you manage to avoid the small lakes. www.moriscosgolf.com Granada - Santa Clara Golf (18 holes, par 72) Santa Clara Golf was designed by D. Enrique Canales Busquets and lies in a village called Otura just 10 minutes from Granada. It’s a challenging course due to the long distances between the holes. The views over the Sierra Nevada - the second largest mountain range of Europe where you can ski most of the year - are simply breathtaking. www.santaclaragolfgranada.com |
