After the Alps, the Sierra Nevada is the highest mountain range of Europe with peaks that top 3,5 thousand metres. Mount Mulhacen at 3482 metres is the highest point of the Spanish mainland, just after the Pico de Teide on the Canarian island of Tenerife with 3718 metres. The name Mulhacen comes from the last king of Granada who is said to be buried on the mountain.

In the Sierra Nevada you can ski until the end of spring. This skiing area - which has the applicable name ‘Solynieve’ (sun and snow) - is about 1000 metres high and has about 35 skiing pistes. This is enough for at least 3 days of skiing on new pistes and there are terraces where you can enjoy a nice meal in the sun.

The biggest part has been declared as a protected wildlife area by the UNESCO. The foothills of the Sierra Nevada, the Alpujarras, are also protected and have tremendous wildlife. The beautiful nature and spectacular views make the area interesting for outdoor activities (horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking etc.) and all kinds of alternative tourism.

The unique feature of this ‘Solynieve’ is the fact that you also can be on the beach within 40 minutes. A perfect solution if you cannot decide whether you want a snowy or sunny holiday!
