Nerja has various sand beaches, from small to big and from busy to quiet. If the tide is low, you can walk from Burriana Beach to some beaches further on. There are also plans to restore the pathway over the cliffs towards the Balcony of Europe. On the bigger beaches you can hire sun beds all summer (2 beds plus parasol is 10 euros). If you like, you can choose a different beach each next day of you holiday...From west (towards Torrox) to east (towards Maro) N.B. Also towards Torrox in the west side of Nerja you can find some nice,quiet and natural beaches. Torrox itself also has a long flat beach next to the boulevard. - El Playazo This beach is wide, straight, 2 kilometres long and stretches until Hotel Marinas de Nerja (together with Hotel RIU Monica the biggest hotels in Nerja). You can also park here and on the beach itself they made 3 new parking areas which you can reach via a dirt road (also suitable for campers). This beach is being crossed by the river Chillar. On this beach you find various (fish) restaurants. - La TorrecillaTorrecilla Beach is the biggest beach in the centre of Nerja. You can rent sun beds here. Besides the beach runs a path to Plaza de los Cangrejos (where we have our restaurant Bagels & Tapas). Here you find restaurants and a kids playground. The beach is 500 meters long. On the end of the beach, on the cliff, you find one of the historical watchtowers. - Playa de Salon This is a small beach and is mainly being used by guests of the hotel above. You can see this beach from the Balcony of Europe. - La Caletilla This beach contains a lot of big rocks and lies underneath the Balcony of Europe. - La Calahonda Calahonda is probably the most photographed beach of the whole Costa del Sol and you see it a lot in the travel guides. It’s small, cute and in the corner stands an old plastered fishermen’s cottage. From the Balcony of Europe you have a nice view over this beach, the centre of Nerja and the mountains in the background. The relaxed beach bar is called Papagayo and in summer they have a lot of live concerts with all kinds of music. - Chorillo Little, rocky beach - Carabeo and Carbeíllo 2 more small beaches that more or less have merged together. - Burriana BeachBurriana is a big, nice 5-star beach with fishermen boats, sun beds and traditional fish restaurants where they make paella in pans with a 2 meter diameter. The beach is popular day and night, especially in high season, for all tourists and also Spanish holiday makers. From the centre of town you can reach it by foot via the steep pathway next to the Parpador (which is a first class hotel that belongs to the state). There is a nice boulevard with shops, parking places (if it’s not too busy) and more restaurants. You can’t see Burriana from the centre, but don’t miss it when you visit Nerja. The beach is about 1 kilometre long and has a lot of facilities and beach sports. - Playa la Caleta At 3,5 kilometre from the centre of Nerja. - Playa de Maro At 4 kilometre from Nerja. You get there via a step path starting next to the centre of Maro. From here on the coast is environmentally protected. - Playa Molino de Papel (Maro) At 7,5 kilometre from Nerja. Official Natural Park - Playa Alberguillas (Maro) At 8 kilometre from Nerja. Official Natural Park and a little rocky. You can park at the road above. - Playa Cala de Pino (Maro) At 8,5 kilometre from Nerja. Official Natural Park - Playa el Cañuelo At 13 kilometre from Nerja. Official Natural Park - Playa Cantarriján (Maro) Nudist beach at 13,5 kilometres from nerja with a steep pass way and 2 nice fish restaurants. Official Natural Park Also the bay of the next village – La Herradura (Almunecar) – forms a nice beach. |
