Many people have a limited vision of the ‘Costa del Sol’ which is a pity The deep South of Spain, Andalusia, has - next to tremendously good weather - a lot to offer. When it comes to culture, history, gastronomy, nature and recreation, you simply need to know ‘How, When and Where’. For these reasons we have created this site for people who want to get more out of their holidays in Andalusia and see more than just Marbella, Torremolinos and Fuengirola. And of course for those who may have plans to emigrate to the ‘sunny South’.

Since March 2006 we have lived in ‘Nerja’ (pronounced as Ner-ha) where we run our restaurant ‘Bagels & Tapas’. According to a lot of travel guides this village is one of the nicest destinations on the Spanish south coast and we still agree with that very much! Nerja is situated 45 minutes east from Malaga and a 1.5 hour drive from beautiful Granada. There’s relatively little high-rise development either here or among the white washed houses in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. About 22.000 people live in Nerja; approximately 6.000 of these are foreign ‘residents’ like us. In the summer the town's population grows to about 45.000.
Nerja is a family holiday town with a creative and vibrant atmosphere. There are a lot of different beaches, an old historic centre with traditional narrow, cobbled streets and countless restaurants and bars. Especially the summer is lively and makes Nerja a really nice place to go out. The ‘Balcon de Europa’ is Nerja’s famous viewing point, giving stunning panoramic views over the neighbouring coastal scenery and the Mediterranean. Other local attractions are the famous Nerja Caves (las Cuevas de Nerja), which house an amazing display of stalactites and stalagmites... Nerja, being located centrally in Andalusia makes a perfect starting point for trips to places such a Granada, Malaga, Ronda, Cordoba and Seville. Closer to hand, there are many delightful villages to discover in the surrounding area one of them being the beautiful village of Frigiliana, situated in the hills 6 kilometres from Nerja.
If you're planning a holiday to Nerja, don't forget to check if there's any fiestas, ferias or festivals in that period of time. Besides that, of course there's also lots of other great activities to enjoy. By the way: in the near future there are plans for Nerja to have a luxurious marina and there will be a golf course in Torrox (the town next to Nerja).
The summers are long, hot and balmy with an average of 32 degrees. The winters are soft and sunny with a daily temperature of around 18 degrees. Because of this unique climate, Nerja attracts visitors throughout the whole year, boasting an average of 300 days of sunshine a year Nerja (and Torrox) have the best climate of Europe…
